TAKUMU KAMIHAGI 上萩 拓夢SCULPTURE GARDEN
ARTIST & DESIGNER // FILM DIRECTOR
On November 4, 2023, Takumu Kamihagi was commissioned by Greg Greenstein to design a space for their newly developed property in Old Agoura, California. Completed on November 13, 2024, the sculpture garden sits on a 1,600 square-foot space on the family’s expansive 30-acre estate.
The sculpture garden begins with a pathway that guides visitors toward an elevated viewing platform extending into the center of the ring. The 22-foot radius steel ring trough houses a 360-degree stream with mixed Mexican pebbles, surrounding the visitors with gentle sounds of flowing water. Gravel within the ring and stones sourced from Southern California’s high deserts further connect the piece to its environment. This design reflects Takumu’s influences, shaped by his dual upbringing in both Southern California and Japan. Drawing inspiration from the local landscapes and multicultural influences he grew up around, he weaves these elements with the timeless principles of Japanese design he was immersed in during his childhood.
Takumu also directed a 15 minute film for the sculpture garden throughout the entire construction process. Situated on a private property with limited public access, it inspired him to create a film that allows those unable to visit to experience the space.
Private viewings of the Green Acres Residence Sculpture Garden are available by appointment via email.
